Lethbridge, Alberta – As part of the Alberta Jobs Plan, the Alberta government allocated $30 million over 2 years to promote long-term economic growth and prosperity in Alberta’s communities and regions through the Community and Regional Economic Support (CARES) program.
Lethbridge & District Exhibition was awarded $1.1 million for the “shovel ready” document for Phase One – the Trade and Convention Centre. This is the largest award to date through this program. It supports a key move forward in a community development plan that has been in the works for several years.
“This funding announcement is great news that will help move this project forward from a conceptual plan to having a detailed design to make it shovel-ready. The City of Lethbridge has committed $1.1 million in matching funding in our capital budget for this design work, and we remain hopeful that grant funding will become available in the future to make this Trade, Convention Centre & Agri-Plex project at Exhibition Park a reality for the businesses and residents of Lethbridge and our surrounding region.” – Mayor Spearman, City of Lethbridge
“I am very pleased to see that the Lethbridge Exhibition has received this significant funding from the CARES program. CARES funding is meant to build local capacity and achieve a positive regional impact for a shared, collaborative vision for the future and demonstrates our government’s commitment to building the economy. The Lethbridge Exhibition has shown tremendous leadership and vision for their future and the future of our city and region. I look forward to continuing our collaboration with them. “ – Shannon Phillips, MLA Lethbridge West
“This is a good news story for businesses and citizens of Lethbridge and district. The finding allows us to move forward and take the next important step in realizing an important development for the community. Replacement of the aging facilities at Exhibition Park has wide spread support from businesses and residents on Lethbridge and the Region. Funding this plan gets us one step closer.” – Mike Davis, President, Exhibition Park
